The process of reapplication or reissue:

The idea of getting a duplicate government document conjures up visions of long wait and a number of hassles. But the entire process has been completely simplified by the Income Tax department. You can now reapply and obtain the duplicate copy of your PAN in a few simple steps without going through a lot of hassles.

  • The first thing that you must do when you realize that your PAN card has been lost or stolen is to make a report at the local police station – what is called a FIR. You must obtain a copy of this FIR with you. (If are a NRI & don't have an FIR, we can still help you).

  • Click here to to start your process and make the PAN assistance fee online. Once you make the payment our executive will send you all the forms + tell you what documents would be required.

  • Fill out the forms using all the information as they appeared on your original card. These include your name, date of birth, father’s name and address.

  • The tricky part is the PAN number which you will have to provide in the form. Most people cannot remember their PAN number. However, it will be written in the covering letter that came along with your PAN card when it was delivered by post. Even if you have lost the letter, there are many other documents where your PAN number is quoted. You can find it on your demat account statement for instance, in your income tax return, etc.

  • If you cannot get hold of any document which contains your PAN number, you can obtain it here. You can enter your details like name, address, date of birth etc and the given URL will retrieve your PAN number information and details.

  • Once you have supplied all the information, you will also have to give the relevant documents like proof of address and proof of identity. You will also have to supply the processing fees as stated above.

  • The duplicate PAN card is issued within fifteen days and can be delivered abroad/any international location.

Other information:

Since 2003, the process of obtaining duplicate PAN card has been highly simplified and you can now obtain a PAN card with minimum loss of time and hassle.

Why you must not loose it?

Your PAN card is a very important document which you must have to carry out large financial transactions in the country. This laminated card issued by the income tax department also serves as a widely acknowledged identity proof in the country. Whether you are buying and selling immovable property or an automobile or you are opening a demat account or buying shares and debentures worth Rs. 1 lakh or more, you will have to produce your PAN card. In fact, you will need it even for only applying for a landline or cellular phone connection. So, this is a very important document which should always be kept in a safe place.

However, accidents happen! Your PAN card may get lost or stolen. Though this is undesirable, the situation is not desperate. You will have to apply for and obtain a duplicate PAN card. All the details, including the PAN number will remain unchanged.
