Here are some points to remember while applying for a fresh PAN for yourself:

  • All data that are submitted for the purpose of obtaining your PAN card and is held securely by the IT department, NSDL and UTIISL who cannot use them for any other purposes.

  • If there has been any error in the card, or there is change in name or address or the card has been lost, the local IT PAN service center will handle all the applications or you can simply write into us and our advisers will help you.

  • Errors in the card will be corrected within twenty days. In the other cases, it may require up to thirty working days to issue a new PAN card.

  • The old number remains valid even if you obtain the new laminated card.

  • Finally, it is illegal in India to have more than one PAN card with different PAN numbers.

The role of a permanent account number.

To begin, its an identification code used by the income tax department to track all your transactions so that you may be taxed accurately. If you are involved in any financial transaction, it is now mandatory to obtain a PAN for yourself. Moreover, it is a widely recognized photo identity and proof of address.

Since 2003, the IT department has completely upgraded the PAN card and is issuing a new laminated variety. It contains several security features like a hologram and a UV line. People with existing PAN cards can apply for this upgraded variety, though their older cards will remain valid and the PAN number will be unchanged. Applicants after July 2003 will automatically receive the new upgraded PAN card.
